I have done both and still do both and I think I would agree the web app takes longer then a 5250 app IF you did not adopt a framework that does the stuff 5250/DDS does for you what HTML does not. Like make sure a number is a number and a 2 decimal number does not have 6 numbers after the decimal point. And it does take some extra time to add the extra usability code in that HTML allows you to add. AJAX calls for lookups, dynamic dropdown lists, built from the database. And then later using some tool to find every "screen" that has the word "Bingo" on it so you can change it to "Bongo" because someone in marketing decided a new name was needed for something. And if you consider current staff moving from one to the other. But bring a relatively new college grad into the mix or spend the money for a good framework and staff retraining and the web is just as fast and usually ends up with a happier user. Although to do think there are some apps that still are more efficient and work better as 5250 and web actually slows things down

I have been watching the discussion - but I wouldn't agree with the assertion that "We believe that Web development today is too slow because of low productivity, and therefore expensive."
Some might think so, but I don't think everyone does. We have a medium sized development team doing nothing but web development on the IBMi, and I don't consider the team to be slow or to suffer with low productivity. Maybe this is because we are using our own Renaissance Framework that we are all familiar with.
