Jeff,

Have you tried using the OCI8 functions built into to Zend Server for IBM
i? According to php.net, these functions should support connectivity to
Oracle 11g. Give it a shot and let me know. These functions are part of
the Community Edition, as well as the full version of Zend Server.

Subject: [WEB400] IBM i running PHP talking with Oracle

Hello Everyone,

I'll start with I am fairly new to PHP. We are at i/OS v7.1, with Zend
PHP/ZendDBI installed.

I have been trying to find a way for a PHP script on an IBM I to talk with
an Oracle 11g database, and in my searching, I have found PDO_OCI. What
I'm looking for are opinions on PDO_OCI and help with how to get it
installed on the IBM i.

I have a few questions:

1. http://php.net/manual/en/ref.pdo-oci.php says that PDO_OCI is
experimental, meaning it can change or be removed without prior notice.
In my Zend config, I see that there are a few databases setup to work with
PDO. Does it look like PDO_OCI will be kept around, or does it look like
it will be short-lived? Opinions?

2. How do I install PDO_OCI on the IBM i? Does anyone have a
document for that?

3. Can PHP use JDBC to get to Oracle? Does anyone have an example
they can send me?

4. Is there a better/easier way to transfer data between an Oracle
database to an IBM i? We have a need for both an on-the-fly method and a
batch transfer method, but at a minimum, we need an on-the-fly method.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and input!

Best Regards,
Jeff
