Apparently the OP was also hit with scope creep. His original instructions, as I understand it, were to provide a kiosk where a user could choose a parcel of land from thousands of parcels in the county. Then the user could view the PDF map(s) of that chosen parcel, and then selectively print one to several pages from that subset of parcels. Complicating the mix is that the printer output would include additional header and footer information that was on the screen, but not on the PDF.

I felt that with the kiosk requirement the job was simplified because he had total control of the data, software, and hardware. That got thrown out the window with an "Oh by the way, users have to be able to do this from home, too" from his boss.

Then later I saw a requirement that the user see only one screen/window.

Let us remember though, I am not the OP. The above is my understanding and therefore very possibly not correct.

Thanks. So, the issue is automatically printing the PDF rather than
retrieving, opening and then printing. Looks like you can get the pdf
to print automatically by adding some script and/or commands to the PDF
itself. Since I use iText to generate the PDF's for my apps, I'll have
to look into that feature because it might save my end users a step.....

For Jack, I am not sure what the origin of the PDF's is. My guess is
that they aren't generated on the fly but are pre-generated and then
stored for retrieval. Depending upon the generating source, he might be
able to embed the command in the document itself.

This thread has been quite disjointed. Partly due to it originating on Midrange-L, then continuing here. And partly due to how details have trickled in. My current understanding is that Jack has PDFs displaying and printing, but needs the print process to be more streamlined. It would help if you could control Adobe Reader Print from JavaScript. Users dealing with browser print plus Adobe print is a bit cumbersome.

If I understand correctly, both HTML and PDF content (maps) need to be printed.
