Maybe JTOpen is actually establishing a database connection, but that
isn't apparent from the code.
My understanding is that JTOpen establishes connections with QZDASOINIT
JOBS, which yes means "database connections".
Paul could probably better explain how JTOpen CommandCall works. I suspect
that it instructs QZDASOINIT JOBS to call "qcmdexec" under the covers and
return the result stream that is generated.
The XMLSERVICE interface seems more comparable to the Java PCML interface
in that both use XML to describe the parameter / procedure interface for
IBM i programs.
I don't see much distinction between the way Java, .Net, PHP, Python, Ruby,
and Node.js interface with an IBM i database and other native objects.
