JSON in unicode? No, that is not true. It is textual data. Normally
UTF-8 is fine.

And those options normally cause translation to occur.

But the whole thing is a bit strange because JSON is supposed to be
written in Unicode (UCS2) and yet the file has been specified as
being page 819 which is ASCII.

Can't help but wonder if it is working almost by accident.
