Sorry but I have not found this to be true in practice. If you are java app server literate, which I'm sure you are, you won't even notice the problems. But for those who are not it can be problematic.

Maybe things have changed but earlier on I had issues with tracking down the source of errors. To the average IBM i programmer Java error messages are about as meaningful as Swahili. It can take a while to find the true cause of the error.

Maybe the redeployment issues have been resolved too but that was a royal pain in the early days.

To be fair, debugging can be an issue with HTTP based web services too, but it is generally easier than with Java app server. And I have no doubt that node.js would have its own problems.

As I said though, I'm fully prepared to accept that my general dislike of Java app servers is based on past experience.

I'd be interested to hear from others on this list who have used IWS to deploy web services.

App server means I have to play with Java and that's never been my
favourite thing to do.

But I confess to having being put off by my experiments during the
early days of Websphere and I probably should get over it.

However, if I'm going to get heavily into something (effectively)
new for me, these days I would choose node.js not Java App servers.
