Jerry,

QTEMP is critical to every job running on an iSeries. I would not mess
with it.

Domino sure does use QTEMP for all of its batch jobs, along with just
about everything else. Outfiles, Data areas etc.

If you would like to see what is in QTEMP for Domino run this command for
the domino SERVER JOB. You would also need to do this for every other JOB
as well.

RUNJOBCMD JOBNAME(SERVER) JOBUSER(QNOTES) JOBNUMBER(123456)
COMMAND('DSPOBJD OBJ(QTEMP/*ALL) OBJTYPE(*ALL) OUTPUT(*PRINT)')

This will output a spoof file under the QNOTES profile.

It would be more trouble to change Domino and associated software, BRMS,
Virus scanners, anything JAVA etc.

You may want to try changing the Job Queue for the vendor product.

I suggest you call the Vendor for Support.

subject: Does Domino use QTEMP?

One of my programmers had an error yesterday with a vendor product (DBU)
for which their response was that QTEMP should be in the system part of
the library list. To me that was a red flag statement. One of the other
programmers decided to move QTEMP to the system library list and we found
out this AM that Domino wouldn't start. This programmer also claims that
QTEMP isn't always required with all jobs. I thought every job on an
iSeries had an associated QTEMP? And finally does anyone know if Domino
requires QTEMP for any of its internal processing?

QTEMP is in my USER section of LIBL for Domino jobs. From my
understanding, ever job does have it's own QTEMP. I can't verify that
Domino uses QTEMP, though, for actual processing.

Every job has a QTEMP whether they use it or it is in the *LIBL.

Your problem is that since you put QTEMP in the System *LIBL, then any job

that starts with a *JOBD which has QTEMP in the user libl will fail to
start because it cannot add QTEMP to the user portion of the libl.

There is no way that any app should require QTEMP in the System *LIBL. If

anything, try adding it to QUSRLIBL, but you shouldn't have to do that
either.

Mark

We use BRMS for everything these days. I haven't written a SAVLIB in
quite a while. Did you try changing Save active wait time to *NOMAX or a

few minutes etc.

I don't think SAVACTWAIT(1) is long enough since it is showing as WAIT.

While we are on the Topic of Save/Restore .

We also bring down each system into restricted once a week for PTF apply
and a proper backup of OS400 etc. Does anyone else do this?

We have our disaster recovery test scheduled for the end of the this month

at an IBM facility in Sterling Forest NY.

Should be an intertesting couple of days. We are trying to restore all
"Mission Critical Systems" in a 72 hour period.

The restore time alone will give me some time to go and practice my golf
swing.........

When I try to
SAVLIB LIB(QUSRSYS) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(SAVEFILES/QUSRSYS) SAVACT(*SYSDFN)
SAVACTWAIT(1) OUTPUT(*PRINT)
I get:
CPF3761-Cannot use DTAQ QTOFARQRY in QUSRSYS.

WRKOBJLCK OBJ(QUSRSYS/QTOFARQRY) OBJTYPE(*DTAQ)
Job User Lock Status

SERVER QNOTES *EXCLRD WAIT
and the list of job fluctuates, constantly - not just when we bring up or
down a domino partition.

If I just omit this object, is that ok? Or, will it be curtains for all
of our Domino partitions if somehow this object becomes damaged and we
have no backup of it?
