We have quite a large environment mixed with Wintel, iSeries and soon AIX
(yeah, I know). Our best practice is a weekly outage on every server for 6
hours where we will shutdown, perform preventive maintenance on all system
databases (fixup, compact, updall) and reboot at the OS level. This
ensures any memory issues building for whatever reason are clear and free.

Typically, we really only use about 2 hours of this 6 hour window but the
expectation of using the whole window is always there. This way, if we
every have to fix a hardware issue or apply a patch, we have the time so do
so. We also use this outage to our advantage for iSeries full sys saves
(bring down, preventative maint, sys save, IPL - maybe a PTF in the mix).

Regards,
Eric
