We use the Cisco CSM (Cisco Content Switching Module ) on two Cisco 6509s
that are load balanced.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/cfgnotes/csm_3_1/index.htm

It acts as a virtual server with an entry in DNS for each site we want to
load balance.

It can be set for load balance or just fail over etc.

It really works great for load balance/fail over of our web site and also
webmail/inotes.

Provides 100% Load Balancing and failover.

It also works for allot of other services. I have a load balanced SMTP
implementation as well.

We will be testing load balancing/failover JDBC for a mirrored DB2
implementation.

There are also other less expensive solutions, including a number of open
source projects.
