Gerald, I see the issue as users not being satisfied with a lacklustre
product compared to 8.5.3 standard. 8.5.3 is so much feature rich, stable
and better performing than 8.01. Actually, 8.01 specifically was fairly
awful for performance if I remember correctly.

I'd suggest you get a test group of 10 people and do the following:

Get some computers able to meet the specs for the 8.5.3 Standard client
Upgrade a server to 8.5.3
Load the 8.5.3 clients
Get Sametime IM integration as a start. It's easy to load and you're
entitled to it.
Passionately educate your users on how to use the entire product.

I've been converting MS advocates one by one and illustrating the great
features of 8.5.3. Since loading on Sametime chat, our email usage has
been down 20% but users have been selling Notes and Sametime to each
other...I only configured about 10% of the Sametime clients. The users
did it themselves because they saw something interesting, cool, powerful,
fresh...

It's not just email. If you want to keep Notes in your environment and
have a productive and happy user base, that's the kicker that you have to
get across right there: it's not just email. Once users look at it as the
productivity/collaboration suite that it really is, perceptions change.
That's my experience anyway.

If all they want is just email, then disregard everything I just said.
Maybe Notes just isn't for them. But I'd suggest they at least know what
they have at their fingertips. Perhaps it's enough to sway the masses.

Sincerely,

Steve Pitcher

All clients are using 8.01 notes basic and/or domino web access.

They are using the basic client due to the resources required for the
eclipse based client.

Most users don't care what Notes has to offer - they just want their
email and figure if it's M$ it must be good (what they know is what they
like).

I think we want to let them try using DAMO 8.0.2 (which I downloaded and
installed on my pc this morning) and then let them decide.

I already don't like how Outlook doesn't prompt me to save and put my
sent email into a folder.

I'm also not sure how well server side archiving will play out. But I'm
only one hour into the experiment.

Thanks, Jerry
