I agree that, in my experience, that FTP is faster. However let me bring up
one application
in which I prefer snads. We have multiple AS/400's. To send EDI data from one
AS/400 to another
we use snads to send to someone named EDIxxxxx on the particular machine. For
example EDI00001
on SYSTEMA. SYSTEMA will have a never ending program that will process the
data upon receipt by
doing a RCVNETF with a MONMSG. If SYSTEMA is running period end, or restricted
backups then it
kills the never ending job and starts it again when it is ready. If SYSTEMA is
down due to the
above reasons, maintenance or whatever then SYSTEMB doesn't give a rip. To set
up this same
processing via FTP would require jumping through many more hoops.

Hmmm, SNADS outdated? May I respectfully suggest you make a
closer technical comparison between these two utilities. If you're
referring simply to SNADS file transfer capabilities (never mind the
other SERVICES that SNADS offers) I can think of several reasons why
SNADS is superior...queuing, storing, reliability. True FTP is more
universally available but...SNADS outdated?
