What? -----Original Message----- From: Joel Fritz [mailto:JFritz@sharperimage.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 1999 8:24 PM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: RPG Cycle(exsr as goto) All right, it's two GOTOS that follow a specific set of rules. A GOTO tells the program to branch to a specific location in the code. An EXSR tells the program to branch to a specific location in the code. The difference is, as Brad points out, that it also remembers where it started and branches back. I think you can simulate subroutines using GOTO and TAG, although it could get very messy if the subroutine is called from a lot of places. -----Original Message----- From: Stone, Brad V (TC) [mailto:bvstone@taylorcorp.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 07, 1999 11:12 AM To: 'MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com' Subject: RE: RPG Cycle [And Brad Said:] -snip- "BTW, EXSR is a goto. I use that one, though " [And Brad Said:] Wrong. EXSR is a GOSUB (in BASIC speak that is.) EXSR jumps to a spot in a program and returns to it's origniating point. GOTOs do nothing of the sort.
