If you have files with dds to receive the contents of the spreadsheets, try
saving them as csv (comma delimited) files and uploading them.  You'll have
to download the as/400 file to create a field description file.

Another option is (if you're at v4r2 or above I think) cpyfrmimpf.  You can
copy the comma delimited file to a file in the ifs and use cpyfrmimpf to
copy it into a database file.

Another option is to continue as you have but format the columns as fixed
width.  If you download the file from the 400 (an empty one will do fine) to
create the fdf, you can do the transfers directly and skip the source file
step.
