If you have the Express Client or the one of the latest releases of the
original client, click SEND button on top of your screen. Click TOOLS and
you should see "Create AS/400 DataBase File". Then follow the dialog box and
give it an XCEL spreadsheet file name. It will then create a table which
matches the XCEL spreadsheet formula. That way, I am guaranteed to have a
table that matches the Excel spreadsheet. 

One covet, the XCEL needs to be saved in Excel 5.0 or lower. Will not work
with EXCEL 6.0 or above.

When using Client Access can anyone tell me which is the best way to
transfer an
XCEL spreadsheet and create a database file on the AS400. What should I save
the
XCEL file as or can it be transferred directly as it is - if so what
parameters
are needed in the details section.

Currently I save to ASCII text space delimited then transfer to a source
file
which then gets a CPYF *CVTSRC performed. However I have spreadsheets whose
columns vary in width and have to adjust accordingly - I am sure there is an
easier way but no manuals on site - help!
