V3R2 didn't support SLIP.  If you have any Comm ports in that AS/400, they
are most likely V.24.  They support SDLC comm's only.

My AS/400 does not have ethernet or a modem.  I need to get files onto
it, though.  It's too much trouble to get tapes every time.

My thought was to use a serial cable to set up a SLIP connection to a
PC.  I haven't figured out how to do this, although I suspect it is
possible.

I'm on V3R2 and cannot upgrade hardware or software.
