I'm not aware of any way in which C/A is less secure than FTP.  Arguably, it can
be more secure because you can use SSL to cause C/A to encrypt passwords before
they are broadcast on the network.  Did you discover something else about either
C/A or FTP to indicate a strong security preference in one direction or another?
