You have multiple questions in there. Let me answer one, tangentially.
With OS/400 you can partition multiple servers on one AS/400. With V5R1
this partitioning got even better. Along with the other enhancements you
can now run Linux on a partition.
Again another tangential answer. (Caveat: I know next to nothing about
Unix). Many popular commands can be run under the qshell interpreter. To
initiate this command use QSH.
I suspect (Caveat: Wild A** Guess) that there are some underlying
differences in the hardware. After all, if IBM can put a processor upgrade
on our machine by replacing a card just the size of a business card, (and
just as thin), then surely they have something in there to prevent you from
purchasing a RS/6000 and then loading OS/400 on it.

Hello All,
Is it possible to install Unix OS into AS/400? (I don't mean clustering
and without OS/400)
I have heard that AS/400 and RS/6000 are the same machine, both are "Made
in Rochester". Difference is OS. Is that true?
