Not that I know of, although I too have been told that the RS/6000 hardware
comes from the same manufacturing line and is almost identical to AS/400.
However, they do plan to support Linux soon in a logical partition. There is
also what is called Portable Application Solutions Environment (PASE) which
is an AIX runtime under OS/400. This lets you run AIX applications on
iSeries and it has a korn shell for you to work in. However, you are not
supposed to be able to use PASE as a build environment (i.e. compile)
although I'm not sure why - if other applications run, why wouldn't a
compiler?

Subject: Unix on AS/400

Hello All,
Is it possible to install Unix OS into AS/400? (I don't mean clustering =
and
without OS/400)=20
I have heard that AS/400 and RS/6000 are the same machine, both are =
"Made in
Rochester". Difference is OS. Is that true?=20
=20
