and all due respect back at ya but that is EXACTLY what the Software
Installation guide suggests... :-)

And I was not suggesting going nuts deleting stuff, but if you are a modern
shop, why the heck would you want the S/36 junk, the S/38 to AS/400 migration
aids, etc. ? Also Client Access can include a bunch of foreign languages that
you might not need, nor will never need, etc.

As for applying PTF's perm, that is the IBM recommendation.

We had 20GB 3 weeks ago looking at going from V4R1 to V4R5 and cleaning up stuff
like this bought is around 8% back... We added disk last weekend so we are at
46GB now (and I don't have to baby-sit the system NEAR as much as I was the
weeks before these upgrades (last week it was above 95%) <BG> !

licensed software to be of any real value. It only causes grief later when
software updates are applied, or IBM "forgets" to ship you software for an
upgrade because it wasn't listed on DSPSFWRSC.

Concentrate on the data and data storage mechanisms. Licensed programs will not
get you anything worthwhile.

Again, on a system of more than 15 GB, unless you have someone downloading every
available PTF, this will not get you much and applying PTF's *PERM can switch
your IPL to A, making the PTF install process more difficult, not easier.>

Huh ?
