Rob,

Still wondering if any existing products fit the bill.

I didn't actually get into the details of what I had, as I couldn't even
recall the program names...;-)

But the Alzheimer's cleared a little, and I recalled I actually had two
different projects for my client that were something similar to SAVRST:

One allowed certain types of objects to be distributed. I think *PGM,
*FILE, *MENU... (Could probably be expanded to all types of objects and
libraries, pretty easy.) Programmer typed in object names, types, from/to
libraries (ie host/remote libraries). F-key and they created a send
package. Handed the ball off to Operations to get sent to 75 - 77 stores.

The other was simply send a file and optionally execute a program. This was
to eliminate the complexities of MQ, as all systems were now 400s. IIRC,
the files had to have the same record format layout, unlike the one above.

As far as SAVRST of libraries, when I made a "lights-out" computer room, I
did a crude mini-system that did multiple unattended backups. They
optionally could be concurrent and go to save files. (But I wouldn't try a
*NONSYS with this technique...;-) I own that code, but it's 10-year old
crap (first I should verify that *I* wrote it, before I say that...;-) so I
don't know if I'd want to give/shareware that or not. Obviously didn't
handle IFS, but probably could be made to...

I could get into more of the technical details, also, if desired...

| Rob,
|
| I'd be curious to see if this fits the bill... I can still document the
| code I started. But, as a general rule, I'm not in favor of putting small
| ISVs out of business (especially ones on this list). So I don't know how
| hard I'll try to get the code, and revamp it, and such. If this tool by
| Carl is lacking or too expensive, please let me know. (BTW,
| there might be
| similar from Bug-Busters, but I haven't looked at 'em for years.) Is cost
| an issue, or did you really want the code in-house?

| | Is there a way to get the source for the 3 commands: SAVRST, SAVRSTOBJ,
