Beware of Brain Overload ... take regular breaks while studying Performance
topics.

Visit AS/400 book stores such as midrange dot com & those hosted by the
AS/400 magazines ... there are lots of books & articles on AS/400 performance
... hey don't forget archives here also.

Visit the ROBOT/400 site at www.helpsystems.com & check out their AUTO TUNE
... and while you are there, sign up for their newsletters, if only for
Dilbert in every issue.

Check out what system value QPFRADJ does.
Explore such AS/400 commands as
WRKACTJOB F11 - put cursor over some column & F1 review - such as elapsed
average response time for all users
DSPJOBTBL
WRKSHRPOOL F11 twice
WRKSYSSTS - figure out significance of page faults

DSPFD (Display file layout) &
DSPDBR (Display file relationships)
include info on access path sharing which can improve AS/400's CPU memory and
hard disk drive access efficiency. Figuring out what to do is really complex.

Check user profiles ... have you given them key-ahead support?
Some users could care less how many password failed attempts since their last
sign-on ... one less screen to go through when signing on.

IBM is constantly upgrading Performance Management with every release ... you
need to get current with what the deal here is ... you can start something
running in the background (eats disk space & degrades performance) which is
communicated to IBM via the ECS line for their software to analyse, then you
can go to an IBM web site to get reports on your system performance story &
IBM reccommendations do what about it. A big chunk of this is a free IBM
service ... better reports cost $, after you are sold on the value of this.
