Okay, but what's to be done when 4 hours happens? Depending on where the e-mail 
originates, 4 hours might happen at any time even though your servers and 
network(s) are in perfect order.

SMTP allows for delayed retries, e.g., see CHGSMTPA RTYMIN() RTYDAY() 
RTYHOUR(); perfectly normal. A momentary glitch along the path, quite possibly 
outside your network, can put any given e-mail into a retry status. In the 
meantime, all your stuff is running fine. So what'll be triggered for a 
'failure', especially since such a delay probably only involves the specific 
path taken by the specific e-mail?

Just trying to cover bases.
