In this case the CHGINPDFT value removes the underline, which would normally
be displayed for a "B" field.  By using this keyword, the underline may be
conditioned using indicators as shown.  It also allows you to specify that
lower case letters may be entered into an alphanumeric field, among other
things. 

In short, it changes the default behavior for an input capable field.
