This questions comes up all the time. Unfortunately, there is no good
answer. You need a Sql database that supports DRDA. Supposedly
Microsofts does, but good luck finding info on it. Last I checked, the
DRDA driver was on the SNA Server CD.

If you get it to work, let us all know.

Subject: MS SQL => AS400

I am looking for a way to directly access data stored on a MS SQL
server.
When I try adding the Relation Data Base Directory Entry (ADDRDBDIRE)
then
try to connect using STRSQL and CONNECT TO DATABASENAME I always get a
communication error, SQ30080 Communication error occurred during
distributed
database processing. The user ID and password does exist. What port
should
I use? Is there a special driver program for the AS400? Do I need
special
software on the SQL Server? I would really like to embed the SQL
directly
into the RPG and not have to copy the data at all. OS400 V5R1 => SQL
8.0 on
Windows 2000 Server
