Rick, you might be able to make test files by using SQL to extract a few hundred records from the primary, then use SQL to get matching records, based on the join criteria. Of course, the optimizer makes different choices based on file size.

The reason is, (as you may guess based on my last post), I'm trying to
improve performance by building logical files suggested by the query
optimiser.   I don't have a proper testing environment, and the files are
too big to make copies of just for a quick logical build and test.
