On most of our machines we do it once every 8 weeks. On one machine we IPL weekly. How often and is it worth it, is subjective. If you are IPLing to get disk space, then get rid of your B10 and get a RISC box. We literally cut our downtimes in half by moving to RISC. Before then, we HAD to IPL every 4 weeks. If you are IPLing to apply ptf's, and you can afford the downtime, then go for it. IBM's always issuing ptf's for 'Integrity Problems'. I get 562 hits googling ibm.com for ptf integrity problem. This may apply to you if security is a big concern for your organization. If you are IPLing because you like a 'clean' backup performed when the system is in a restricted state, and you can afford the downtime then do as you wish. Most times there are alternatives to achieve this though.
