Don't know about newer twinax displays, but golden oldies like the 5251 
had a switch that would display all the attributes on the screen, 
displayed them in tiny characters like fractions.

I don't know if this is useful to you, but x5250 can be compiled to put an 

'@' on the screen everytime it encounters a display attribute.  This way 
you could check to see if the attribute is there or not.

To use it you need a *nix box (linux, *BSD, mac OS X, or even linux on an 
lpar) and tn5250.  x5250 is at:

Simply add -DDEBUG to your CFLAGS environment variable before running 
./configure and @ will be placed in every attribute position.
