Is it possible that you should be populating the field with a hex '29'
instead of a hex 'A9' since the hex 'A9' is to protect a field?  Since your
affected field is output only, maybe you are experiencing 'unpredictable
results' by trying to protect an output only field.

I think you may be correct about the screen compiler.
If I change the display field from 'O'utput  to 'B'oth it works correctly!!!

I don't see any downside other than 78 extra unnecessary characters being
returned to the RPG program as input.
