Jeff There are copmpanies doing the thing you describe. But those of us in our right state of mind, remove the tapes as soon as possible and store them offsite. He said a number of companies use 10 tapes in rotation, 5 per week, alternating. On Monday they will load 5 tapes into the tape drive and leave them there all week. BRMS will use a different tape each day. On Friday they get removed and stored. The following Monday the other 5 tapes are loaded and the week is repeated. Do companies actually do this? Backup onto a tape and leave it in the drive? There is no way I would do this. Once the backup is finished, the tape is removed and stored in the fire-resistant safe within a few minutes.
