We remove the tapes that are written every morning and stored off location. We also have 40+ tape rotation. He said a number of companies use 10 tapes in rotation, 5 per week, alternating. On Monday they will load 5 tapes into the tape drive and leave them there all week. BRMS will use a different tape each day. On Friday they get removed and stored. The following Monday the other 5 tapes are loaded and the week is repeated. Do companies actually do this? Backup onto a tape and leave it in the drive? There is no way I would do this. Once the backup is finished, the tape is removed and stored in the fire-resistant safe within a few minutes.
