Try binary instead of ascii or vice-versa? Is the receiving system an ascii box or ebcdic? If ebcdic that might be the answer, or if not and the file itself is ascii it might be too. Since you're actually getting the whole file, look at the end of the file in hex on the sending system, and see if there are some unprintable characters there. I've seen that cause some problems, although not specifically on the as400. Usually an X12 file should only contain letters, numbers, and the specified delimiters. If you can't get at the sending system, see if you can talk somebody into putting it into an archive and emailing it to you. I vaguely remember being able to override stdout to a physical file on the as400, but the output is the same thing you see in the interactive ftp window on the sending system. On the receiving side, you might check the joblog of the ftp server job. No real knowledge here, just lots of experience at flailing.
