Yours and Jerry's comments were on the mark. I was using a REFFLD so had no
entry in the data type field. I added the S. It would not compile as there
was also an EDTCDE. After removing the EDTCDE it compiled and *voila*
there was a minus sign.

However the decimal point disappeared. I re-read the manual for data type
and keboard shift coding instructions. As near as I can see, I have a
choice of S or an EDTCDE. I can have a decimal point or a minus sign but
not both?

Is your field in the dds for the screen a type S or something else?
The S is for a signed numeric.

Subject: minus sign in a numeric screen field

This must be a *doh* question. I must be having a brain flat. I have
looked and can not find examples. I am feeling really stupid about
now.

I have a field that is numeric on the screen. How does one set the
screen so that a enter(-) is not a "}" on the screen? I use an edit
code, but that is only effective after the screen is processed and
rewritten.
