DB2 on AIX can handle XML. i5/OS cant.


Yes, it can.  Check out:
http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data/db2/extenders/xmlext/xmliseries/

It's an extender, not native XML data type, but say IBM did add native XML
data types.  Do you realize what development cost that would be (hundreds of
millions of dollars)?  Then poll midrange.com here and ask how many are
clamoring for native XML data types (1%?).
