When we ordered our i5's about 1 1/2 years ago, I tried to convince them to consolidate the Wintel servers on it. While they are definitely pro-i5 (just snicker when someone calls and tries to sell a Windows-based distribution package), that suggestion didn't make it outta the gate.

No, I don't know Why. I like it to eat.

75! Holey crap it's -15F here this morning, I don't think I could get my house UP to 75. How does that save money?

OK sorry I see you mentioned summer, yah it made 75 here last some, a couple times.

But frying your computer equipment to save money is stoopid. That's like taking insurance off your house when it's raining cause it can't burn down then right?

To save money convince management to convert all processes to run on one consolidated System i. That way they only need to power and cool one system!

Last summer, to save money, management dictated that thermostats be set to 75. Slightly uncomfortable for humans but bearable. However, the next morning, when I came in, the UPSs were beeping like crazy. If the UPS goes south, the System i (and the individual PCs) goes south.

I don't know what the temperature has to be for that to happen. I changed the setting to 72 and everything settled down.
