I worked at place many moons ago that had carpeting - on the walls. This was when we had a computer, printer, slitter/burster, tape drives, and decollator in there. Worked better (and cheaper) than egg cartons to keep down the noise.

Tis true that no one ever walked on it or built up a static charge from it.
