Where does the data reside? Can you get someone to build you a green
screen
front end if it's sitting on the i?

I think quite a few people out there would absolutely shocked at the entry
speed that existed in the past.

When the paperwork data flow or entry data flow was designed to match each
other the speed was beyond belief.

The problem with way too many systems are written so that all that was done
was computerize the manual system. And if the truth be known the manual
system and forms were often terribly designed for the humans to start with
and were often copied from some where else.

I'm from an accounting back ground but the idea that one has to look all the
way to the bottom of reports and paperwork for what is most often the most
important numbers is nuts. Luckily, early in my career I had a company
president ream me good for "wasting his time" by giving him the standard
reporting that was gospel out their.

He said something like this.

I want the most important total and summary data near the top, THEN, if I
choose to wade though the rest of the document I will. Is the CLEAR?

Doing that required that most report programs be writing in two steps. A
blind step to get the totals, then another pass to print it all.

So today whenever I do almost any kind of an Excel spreadsheet, the row
right after the heading row has the totals and that row is fixed so it
doesn't scroll off the screen when working with the lower rows.
