Yes, and clustering is the predominate architecture taught in CS departments at universities around the world. Computer Science has become the study of distributed architecture and management of disparate technologies. As an industry, we're in a can of worms.

Clustering doesn't help if you have poorly written software. In fact,

software. Clusters increase complexity, and may very well lead to
lower uptime if implemented incorrectly.

patching (or installing PTFs).

Clustering can help you reduce the risk of system downtime in case of
a site failure (e.G. building burns to the ground).

Clustering is something that's already on the i and can help you
getting more from your i infrastructure.
