yeah I was trying 'where row between 10 and 20' that seems to work although it bombs at the end on that statement but it does the copy non the less.

Adam,

How are you hoping to define 'n'. There is no RRN concept in SQLServer.
The rows are stored in order of the clustered index if there is one, or
in arrival (mostly*) sequence if the table is a heap (no clustered
index). 

If you have a column, say an identity, on the table you could simply add
"where ID between x and y" to the select statement.
