Back on AS/400's they had a dedicated UPS port.  On Power boxes they have 
a plethora of serial ports that can only be used in very restrictive 
situations.  For example, AIX on a box without an HMC attached.  (And it's 
not because the HMC uses the port - it doesn't.)  This next to worthless 
serial port will work as a UPS port if you attach an additional $87 cable 
which takes so long to get you suspect they are hand made, one per order, 
in a back alley sweatshop in china and sent over via a sailing junk.  And 
if you follow this convoluted process that involves some chicken bones and 
burning a goat it's supposed to work.
