For really important stuff you make the user actually key in the word 'YES'
or 'DELETE' --- don't take ENTER for an answer! :-)

True, but the latest incident had nothing to do with vacations, but it
suddenly became "critical" over a week later. Really can't blame the user -
this time. We only have two clerks here, and both said, "We didn't close
such-and-such for December but the system (application) says it is closed."
I verified that the application was, indeed, closed; i.e., posted to the
G/L.

Turned out (after a bit of brow-beating) that the Treasurer/Owner had
"accidentally" run the close before December was even over! Even though
there's a "Do You really want to do this?" panel, he gets distracted and
just turns around and presses the Enter key. I have long been of the
opinion that a confirmation should require a more positive response than
just pressing the Enter key, such as pressing a command/function key. I'll
probably get around to implementing that for this application since it
caused so much turmoil last week.

Oh well, that should help cover that occasional week off. :-)

Roger,

Thanks for reminding me of the Cleanup routine. Job logs were set for
removal after 7 days, but (I can't believe this) it's sometimes > a week
before they report a problem. So I changed it to 14 days.

They don't have to physically "print". And, system cleanup options (or a
scheduled job) can purge them for you.

Roger,

Yes, I considered that - but I don't want my job logs printing or have to
remember to prompt to change the default.

Have you considered: ChgCmdDft Cmd(Signoff) NewDft('LOG(*LIST)') ??

Subject: Mandatory Job Log

I am having problems with a couple of users telling me, "I didn't do that"
(whatever THAT is). I wanted to force a joblog. If they signoff using a
menu option, I have SIGNOFF *LIST, but if they just type SIGNOFF the
default
is *NOLIST.

I thought that changing the job description to:

Change Job Description (CHGJOBD)

Type choices, press Enter.

Message logging: LOG

Level . . . . . . . . . . . . 4

Severity . . . . . . . . . . . 00

Text . . . . . . . . . . . . . *SECLVL

Log CL program commands . . . . LOGCLPGM *YES

and putting that into their user profile would always get a job log no
matter how they signed off. I know (because I tested it - again) that on
a
SBMJOB with this job description I get a job log.

What am I missing regarding the interactive sessions?
