Do you have a vendor or in-house software need that requires V8.0?

If not, then V6.1 or V7 WAS Express is very stable and relatively easy to
use.

I have V6.1 WAS Express on my V6.1 OS/400 iSeries.

I was told that the entire installation of this program product is done from
"Installation Manager". RSTLICPGM isn't used for WAS V80

Has anyone actually been able to figure out how to install the most

Apparently it isn't installed through the RSTLICPGM process anymore.
You have to download an "Installation Manager" application to the
iSeries, and use it in conjunction with some type of "repository"
and all of this is done from the command line (QSHELL is guess...)

I start down through the installation documentation I was able to find
and end up nested 8 deep in links and all I see is information for
UNIX and Windows installs ....

I'm going crazy here.

Can anyone point me to a list of steps that need to be performed to
install WAS on an iSeries that isn't cluttered with how to install it
on EVERYTHING else?

AFaIK there is still a requirement to RSTLICPGM to get a pre-requisite
product [¿ 5733-W80 (WE2) WebSphere Application Server - Express 8.0 ?]
installed, but then the actual [common experience] installation is via a
scripted [likely via the QSH] or a GUI install procedure. I did not read to
verify that, but I think the following documentation should assist to
clarify:

Navigation within the _Contents_ [shown in a frame on the left of the

be very specific to IBM i:

IBM® Installation Manager is a common installer for many IBM software
products that you use to install or uninstall this version of WebSphere®
Application Server.

_Before you begin_

_New feature_ : WebSphere Application Server Version 8.0 is the first full
version to be installed by Installation Manager rather than by the programs
that are used to install, update, and uninstall previous versions.
Installation Manager is a single installation program that can use remote or
local software repositories to install, modify, or update new WebSphere
Application Server products. It determines available packages-including
products, fix packs, interim fixes, and so on-checks prerequisites and
interdependencies, and installs the selected packages.
You also use Installation Manager to uninstall the packages that it
installed.

_Restrictions_ :

* Do not use the same response files that are used with WebSphere
Application Server Version 7.0 or earlier to install or uninstall Version
8.0 and later; use response files that are based on Installation Manager to
install, update, or uninstall Version 8.0 and later.
* The Installation Manager GUI is not available on IBM i; all
interaction with Installation Manager on IBM i is done through the command
line or response files.

Overview of IBM Installation Manager: IBM Installation Manager is a
general-purpose software installation and update tool that runs on a range
of computer systems. Installation Manager can be invoked through a
command-line interface. You can also create response files in XML and use
them to direct the performance of Installation Manager tasks in silent mode.
