IBM i and Licensed Program keys are the same for each partition. Limited by
the total amount of CPU and users that you are entitled to. Just copy the
keys from one LPAR to the other. The easy way to do that is with a license
key file. Use DSPLICKEY to a license key file :
DSPLICKEY OUTPUT(*LICKEYFILE)
LICKEYFILE(MYLIB/MYKEYFILE)
The move the file to your new partition and use ADDLICKEY
ADDLICKEY LICKEYINP(*LICKEYFILE)
LICKEYFILE(MYLIB/MYKEYFILE)
That will add all the IBM i keys in one swoop. Beats the dickens out of
typing them all in again.....
OEM software depends on the OEM vendor, some are nice, while others........
Not so much.

All true. Keep in mind there are some best practice items but the major one
is the number of disk units. The limit of 16 SCSI devices on a server
description is an important number as Rob has described.
With respect to Rob's comment about the DVD virtualization it's best if you
create the network server description for disk units but set that one to not
virtualize tape or optical. Create a second description that does allow it
and that's all it does. Now you have more control over if those devices are
available and which partition is using them.

He probably wasn't referring to my Grand Canyon reference. Probably more
to
the two screen shots I sent off list showing the SCSI virtual adapters
from
both the guest and the host viewpoints.
And, yes, the 6.1 Technical Overview is probably the most helpful.
If you do it right, it's really cool when you stick a CD in and both the
guest and the host say "I_BASE loaded".

Using the HMC create partition wizard, I created a 4th partition.
However, no where through this process did I see where this partition
would be "hosted" and tied to an existing partition.
At this point, it appears as a "normal" or "standard" partition, with no
physical hardware assigned to it.

You can add more storage spaces on the fly. Just don't add more than 16
to one device. Create another device instead. Otherwise the 17th space
will just eat space and never be used. Can only be removed in a system
