IIRC, there were a couple of things to note about observability--

-- There's a program you can run to identify objects that won't convert

-- Nowadays, you can remove observability, but the system still retains enough information needed for similar conversions. I believe this was a latecomer to the process, and did not exist back in the Dim Ages.

Object conversion was a huge issue.
If the object kept observability, then good chance it could be converted.
If not, a 6.1 version of the object was required.
Most 3rd party vendors do NOT keep observability, thus you need to reach out to them for the 6.1 version.
