IIRC, there were a couple of things to note about observability--

-- There's a program you can run to identify objects that won't convert

-- Nowadays, you can remove observability, but the system still 
retains enough information needed for similar conversions.  I believe 
this was a latecomer to the process, and did not exist back in the 
Dim Ages.
