Hello Charles,

My point is anything you learn playing around on v4r5 has a high chance of being out of date if you tried to apply it to a modern system.

I have access to V5R4 and V7R2 systems. Everything I learned is still valid for for these other releases.

Yes, programming positional in 7.2 makes some of the group members wince. And my preference to use the old calls over SQL surely raises eyebrows. Again: I'm not doing this for a living. I'm a professional Linux Sysadmin and Network Specialist so I can afford the power bill for my Hobby, to tinker with all sorts of old and outdated computers. :-)

If you want to play, just get an account on PUB400 or something...

I really appreciate the hassle and additional work Holger has for providing his service to the community. In fact, I used pub400.com in the beginning of my AS/400 journey. But to make myself accustomed to the OS from a Sysadmin's point of view, pub400 isn't the right thing for the job. And why should I bother with pub400 when I have something which is truly my own, under my own supervision?

Okay, "truly my own" to the extent that I'm extradited to the goodwill of IBM should I ever need to replace a part that triggers the invalidation of some system internal checksums, only IBM knows how to generate.

:wq! PoC
