Thanks, that helps. So just thtee cards. A 2723 Ethernet, and a 2721 (I think) dual serial controller (and in the middle probably something SCSI for the disks and other internal peripherals).

In C07 slot, there is the MFIOP (Multi Function IO Processor) which drives the disks, tape, and C08 slot.

Anyway, the machine definitely has no Twinax controller. So Operations Console is the only way to go forward, without investing in a bunch of Twinax hardware (controller card, brick, cables, adapter, and finally a terminal with keyboard).

I've been looking at DSPHRWRSC and I believe this one is the twinax controller?

CTL01 6A59-001 Non rilevato Unità di controllo ter

It says "Not detected", not sure if it's referring to the controller, or the console itself.

Does DSPHDWRSC shows another adapter in C08 slot which would have an active (or similar) status? You should see a 2721 type adapter. I do not remember exactly but in some cases, this 2721 might report as a 6A59.

Some documentation about this:

https://www.ibm.com/common/ssi/ShowDoc.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_sm/3/872/ENUS9406-_h03/index.html (search for #9721 which is the same as a #2721) (when a feature starts with a "9" in a sales manual document, it means the price is included in the system price).
http://www.ibmfiles.com/ibmfiles/as400/170_250_6xx_7xx_Sxx_System_Installation_and_Upgrade.pdf (appendices A, B)

Also not sure about that. But it has to do with console, somehow. It is mentioned in this documentation which might be(come) helpful for you:

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.1?topic=information-determining-primary-alternative-consoles
One last bit of info is after IPL I get a A9002000 error on the front panel "If the system displays this SRC, it typically means that a console was not found by the IBM® i operating system."

In the PDF file, there is some information about this, look at A105 page 13. They also talk about the required software on PC side.

At any rate, from what I gathered so far, I'm leaning towards finding and operations cable first, that sounds like the safest option.
