We (Cornerstone) uses GoToMyPC a lot (have a 20 slot subscription) with a
lot of outside systems behind a lot of different corporate firewalls and it
is very rare to have it blocked.

It isn't inexpensive, but it is very valuable so we pay for it.

Windows XP remote desktop is pretty good. There's also a 'remote
assistance' mode, but I've never tried that. I think it shows the
desktop in one pane and a chat window in another.

VNC is also good ... but I've experienced some problems with some
applications not painting correctly.

Neither app works well through a router though.

I've heard good things about GotoMyPC, although I have no direct
experience with it. Since it's browser based, I don't think it has any
problems with routers.
