Or buy a hard drive or RAM upgrade (I think both qualify) and buy the OEM.

Speaking of which...I just bought a new Mac (2.4 Ghz, 2 GB, 20 inch
monitor), and will be running Parallels. I need to get a copy of XP.
Checking on newegg, I see this: Microsoft Windows XP Professional With
SP2C - OEM at $139.99, and this: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
with SP2 - Retail for $269.99. Doing the right thing, do I need to
spend the $269.99?

Thanks...

Contact the manufacturer of your laptops. Most of them have the
necessary preload kits for Windows XP that you can get for a small
fee. The comments made by Walden/Terry still apply, you'll need to
have a business or ultimate version of Vista or an appropriate
licensing contract.

Please note that many laptop manufacturers do not support running XP
on every machine they have - you might run into troubles with not
having the necessary drivers.

If you do not use a preload kit supplied by the manufacturers, prepare
to deal with having to install a mass storage driver on your own. For
this you'll either need an USB Floppy drive or remaster the Windows XP
CD.
