Well that makes sense! It's new hardware for that copy of XP. And
thanks for the Parallels tip...I just bought it at the Apple
store...I'll check to see if it's out of date.

No - buy the OEM version. I've been running that Parallels /XP Pro
configuration for over 6 months now.

Since your hardware did not come with a preloaded version of Windows
you meet all the criteria for the OEM license.

By the way - last time I checked Tiger Direct was cheaper than New
Egg. Also don't buy Parallels retail - it is almost invariably out
of date. I was lucky that I had read a post to that effect and the
helpful staffer at BestBuy confirmed that they were selling an old
release. Reason being that Parallels upgrade policy is not the most
generous in the world and many people found they were on a back
release with "brand new" software and had to pay an upgrade fee.


P.S. I don't regard moving from Vista to XP as a "downgrade" - maybe
"down level"? <grin>
