Out of curiosity, what do you require of Ctrl-Alt-Del? I don't even use
it anymore at home and at work I do the three-finger-salute only at boot
time to log in to the corporate domain.

Regarding "I can isolate the bad things in XP pretty fast. In Vista it
will likely be a task I don't have time for.", while things have been
rearranged in Vista, it is mostly just a matter of finding them once and
realizing the new arrangement makes sense. If that's too much bother,
hit the Windows key & start typing. The search-as-you-type finds things
quickly. Example: Event viewer: Win-Event should bubble Event Viewer to
the top of the list or the traditional way: Win-Control Panel-System and
Maintenance-View Event Logs. Of course you can always switch Control
Panel to Classic View.

BTW, you could set up an XP/Vista dual boot. That would not be
destructive. Here's how:
