Isn't that the truth - I tried to compare what I had with those you linked
to. 8 out of 9 were different. The only one that was the same was the
power manager.
And the really sad part was that my browser (Firefox 3.5.5) hung on
everyone of the license agreements (from your links) so I never got the
'accept' link to continue.
So I tried accessing them in IE8 and (also in compatibility mode) and they
were really flakey. It was very hard to get to the accept license
agreement click and then the run/save dialog box that follows. Finally I
got one to actually download, but for the next driver I couldn't just
continue. I had to reboot, then "click here, click there, try again"
multiple times for every driver download. I spent about three hours doing
this. Talk about a cluster-fluke.....
Each web page in the status bar would have a message stating 'error on
webpage', but I couldn't determine what the error was (let alone fix it).
I did get the ATI drivers, (I was hoping to get the ATI Catalyst Control
Center application) and I installed it. Still no ATI Catalyst Control
Center. I tried to do a driver roll back and that was grayed out. Then I
awoke this morning to find both monitors still active and no screen saver
lockout. Now I'm suspicious about whether that video driver corrupted the
power management...
Before I left for work I did a reboot in safe mode and started the last
known good config. I'll go home at lunch and see if the laptop monitors
are dark and if the screen saver lock out kicked in. If not then I suspect
I will have to start from scratch again just to recover my original ATI
video drivers (which didn't seem to affect power management).
I tried looking for those on the OEM install media, but I can't see anyway
of accessing them except for a system restore.
And the other thing I couldn't find was the list of restore points. I know
there are a few out there since I saw windows update create them before
applying updates... The help only showed stuff relative to rescue and
recovery but not how to get to the system restore points.
